THE DAY I FOUND MYSELF….
Those days are still vivid in my memory – days when I felt like I had lost my spark. I yearned for more from life. I wanted to make a difference, but I didn't know how or where to start. Passion was a stranger to me, someone I had never encountered. For months, I felt like I was going through the motions of daily life. I'd wake up in the morning feeling empty and angry with myself. I couldn't explain those emotions, but I felt trapped and wondered how it would all end. I felt like I was living in someone else's body, propelled to do its bidding.
At one point, I wanted to share this burden with friends and family, but I couldn't describe what I was feeling. All I knew was that it made me feel trapped and unfulfilled.
One day, on a whim, I decided to participate in a writing challenge. I received an email from their community, and to this day, I still don't know how they contacted me. That moment was my saving grace – my break free and freedom. The writing community surrounded me with writers, poets, storytellers, and many others. I felt a spark ignite within me. I felt like I had finally found where I truly belonged – my safe haven. For the first time in a long time, I felt alive. I felt like I was doing what truly mattered.
Over time, I looked forward to writing, like this very piece I'm writing now. I started to see those sparks grow into burning flames. But it wasn't a smooth ride. There were still days when I doubted myself, when I felt I wasn't good enough to be a writer or make an impact on others. There were days I thought about giving up due to writer's block. Yet, I still found myself drawn to writing, and something within me kept pushing me forward.
Maybe it's the feelings of fulfillment and happiness I get whenever I write about people's emotions and mine. Maybe it's the sense of purpose that comes from pursuing this passion. Whatever it was, it kept me going and striving to be better.
Fast forward to a year, this journey so far has not been easy, but it was worth it. I discovered my passion, and in doing so, I found happiness, purpose, and fulfillment that I had been missing for so long. Looking back, I realize that discovering my passion was a journey I had to undertake, not a destination waiting for my arrival. It took time, patience, self-reflection, and perseverance. But it was worth it.
If you're feeling like your spark has fizzled away or something is missing in your life – unfulfillment – I encourage you to take a step to discover your passion. It may be scary or not align with societal expectations, but it's the most rewarding journey to take on. It's never too late to pursue your passion, as long as it brings you joy and happiness.
