BOOK TITLE: WE SHOULD ALL BE FEMINISTS.
AUTHOR: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
A gender ideological book which encompasses the African beliefs on gender, human inequality and the wrong ideology of feminism.
Here are the lessons from the book— We should all be feminists;
1. Being Normal does not make it right: “If we do something over and over again, it becomes normal. If we see the same thing over and over again, it becomes normal.”
2. Equality: We have evolved yet our ideas of gender have not evolved very much.
We spend so much time teaching girls to worry about what boys think of them, to be likable and submissive. But the reverse is not the case. We turn around and either praise or excuse men for the same reasons. The right society should acknowledge that women are just as human as men.
3. Happy World: A fairer world is a world of happier men and happier women who are true to themselves. we must raise our daughters and sons differently.
4. Embrace Change: “Boys and girls are different biologically but socialization exaggerates the differences.” We should start to embrace this process and acknowledge this change rather than hinder it.
5. Gender Issue: “The problem with gender is that it prescribes how we should be rather than recognizing how we are.” Life should be lived by who we truly are and not what society imposes on us.
6. Attitude and mindset: “What if, in raising children, we focus on ability instead of gender? What if we focus on interest instead of gender?.” At last all these bowls down to attitude and mindset which should matter mostly and not let culture eat deep into us.
7. True definition of the word FEMINISM: Feminism is not just the social theory on women's restrictions rather on the viewpoint that all humans are equal.
The writer inscribed different experiences and encounters which enabled a better comprehension of knowledge. She brought to light the need for equity and equality among all individuals.
I recommend this book to all; Men, women and youths.
